702 Talk Radio news & actuality producer Andiswa Makanda talks about her role as the lady behind the scenes of John Robbie’s show.
There is an old feminist slogan that goes “behind every great man there is a great woman.” In this case, Andiswa Makanda is the great woman behind the great John Robbie of the renowned John Robbie Show on 702 Talk Radio.

The 28 year old from Mthatha in the Eastern Cape is the news & actuality producer on one of the most critically acclaimed morning shows in the land. Speaking to Frequency Magazine at Primedia offices in Sandton where 702 Talk Radio is also situated,

Makanda explains her role as the news & actuality producer: “I put together content that’s newsworthy and deals with current affairs for the John Robbie Show.” During the interview which was around 15h00, Makanda was already gathering all the newsworthy content that took place that day for the next show.

A hard working lady who puts extra hours into her work, it’s no surprise that Makanda scooped the 2015 MTN Radio Award for the work that she does. So where did it all start for Ms Makanda? As a Media Studies student at Wits University, Makanda says she found 702 Talk Radio very interesting when she was in her second year. It was then that it became her station to listen to. “They came across as smart and intelligent,” she says about 702 Talk Radio.

She developed some passion for radio and tried to find WORK AT the campus radio station but was shunned. After she graduated with her honours degree, Makanda then began to knock on various media houses’ doors including ENCA, SABC and 702 Talk Radio.

106.0 FM and 92.7 are 702 Talk Radio frequencies. Stay tuned.

It became a “Live Loud” affair at club Tiger Tiger in Fourways where 5FM had one of their countrywide birthday celebrations on the 18th October 2014. The club was packed to a full capacity and the music was very loud to the patrons’ amusement.

Frequency Magazine was invited VIP style by the station’s PR Manager Gilda Van Schalwyk. On our arrival, DJ Euphonik had the masses shaking their bodies to local and international house tunes.

Some of the 5FM staffers including Rob Forbes, Nick Hamman and Sotiris Moldovanos who is the station’s music manager mingled with the crowd on the dance floor.

Straight after Euphonik’s set, Poppy Ntshongwana had the 5FM fans/listeners in a frenzy when she got behind the decks; they danced to all the tunes she was dishing out from hip hop to rave.

Ntshongwana even had the mic in front of her and kept talking to the crowd who clearly loved the sound of her voice because they screamed every time the sexy DJ grabbed the microphone.

In the VIP area there were beautiful people who also danced to the music and Gilda Van Schalwyk was one of them. The PR Specialist was having fun and observant at the same time you could tell that she was still on the clock.

As part of their celebrations, 5FM will also host music concerts in the country with bands like The Foo Fighters, 30 Seconds to Mars and Lumieers before the end of 2014.
